Moving to Indian Land
Six questions to answer for the exact address before you sign — and where to find the official answers.

Start With Jurisdiction
Pull the parcel record. It tells you the state, the county, and the tax district. Inside Indian Land's South Carolina footprint that will usually be Lancaster County, regardless of whether the mail reads Fort Mill or Lancaster. In Bridgehampton, some homes are in North Carolina.
Confirm School Assignments
Use the school district's own address lookup, and recheck close to your move date. Attendance zones can change, and listing descriptions are not authoritative.
Plan for Property Taxes
If the home will be your primary residence, research South Carolina's legal-residence application and its deadlines with Lancaster County. The seller's tax bill reflects the seller's status, not necessarily yours.
Read the HOA Documents
Ask for covenants, bylaws, rules, the current budget, reserve information, and any transfer or initiation fees. Confirm which amenities are included in dues and which require separate membership.
Line Up Utilities
Confirm the water, sewer or septic, power, gas, trash, and internet providers for the address. Septic systems deserve an inspection.
Drive the Commute
Drive from the actual driveway to the actual destination at rush hour and mid-day before deciding a location works.
A Timeline That Works
Most of these checks take an afternoon each, and the order matters. Settle jurisdiction first, because everything else — taxes, schools, permits — follows from it. Then read the HOA documents before you are under contract, when walking away is still simple. Leave the commute test for a weekday morning in the week you are deciding.
