Editorial Policy
Editorial Policy
Sources first. Verification before publication. Corrections in public.
Standards
Every guide aims to:
- Store state and county explicitly — never inferred from a postal city.
- Cite official sources for jurisdiction, taxes, and schools.
- Separate verified facts from items readers must confirm.
- Label sponsored and affiliated content.
- Require human review for age restrictions, jurisdiction, tax, school, cost, and inventory claims.
Sources and Verification
We prefer primary sources: county assessor and GIS records, school district lookups, state agencies, and recorded community documents. Marketing materials are treated as claims to verify. When we cannot verify a fact, we either omit it or label it as a research lead, as in our Bretagne guide.
Corrections and Updates
Pages show a review date where relevant. Readers can submit corrections at any time, and material changes are noted on the page. Stale content is flagged for review rather than silently left in place. Newly verified guides are announced in the Journal and the newsletter.
Affiliations
This publication is part of a network of affiliated businesses. Links to them are disclosed and never presented as independent recommendations. The full list is in our network directory; more on the publication is on About.
How a Guide Is Researched
Every guide starts with jurisdiction: the state, county, and municipality, if any, that govern the place. That one decision determines taxes, schools, permits, and utilities, which is why our Indian Land and Fort Mill address explainer exists. Facts that depend on official records are tied to the agency that publishes them — the Lancaster County Assessor for valuation, the South Carolina Department of Revenue for assessment rules, and the school district's own address tools for assignments.
Where we cannot confirm something, we say so, or we leave it out. We do not publish invented listings, reviews, prices, or projects. Community pages such as Sun City Carolina Lakes and Bridgehampton point readers to the association documents that actually control the answer.
Updates and Corrections
When an official process changes, we update the guide and the change is noted where it matters. Material errors are logged on the corrections page. Weekly Journal stories follow the same standards as evergreen guides, and readers can get new and updated research through The Indian Land Edit newsletter. Affiliations are disclosed under Our Network and sponsored content rules are on Advertise.
